Biomal as fuel

Biomal can be described as a biofuel with a net heating value in the same order as ordinary wood chips. It is possible to pump and therefor easy to feed evenly.

Despite a higher content of ash and moisture and a lower content of combustibles the net heating value is acceptable, about 7-8 MJ/kg fuel which corresponds to the net heating value of an ordinary bio fuel with a moisture content of 50 %. Since animal waste products contains fat the combustible part of Biomal has a high calorimetric heating value.

Full-scale combustion of Biomal have shown that:

  • The Biomal concept is a straightforward solution for energy utilization of a waste product which has to be destroyed by incineration.
  • Co-firing of Biomal results in stable combustion conditions and low emissions.
  • The nitrogen compounds in Biomal seems to reduce NOx in the same manner as ammonia or urea.
  • No elevated levels of dioxin emissions due to co-firing with Biomal have been measured.
